Utilities Access Code
Page updated 18 Nov 2011
The Minister for Infrastructure approved the draft National Code for Utilities' Access to the Transport Corridors on 10 November 2011.
The Utilities Access Code is enabled by the Utilities Access Act 2010. It was developed independently by the New Zealand Utilities Advisory Group (NZUAG), and provides a nationally consistent approach for managing access to the transport corridors (road and rail) by utility operators.
The Code is designed to reduce costs and improve coordination between utilities and transport providers, helping to support New Zealand's electricity, telecommunications, natural gas, water, rail and road networks. Efficient networks are central to the Government's vision for infrastructure, outlined in the National Infrastructure Plan.
The National Infrastructure Unit would like to congratulate NZUAG for successfully guiding the Code through development and consultation to approval..
